HOW TO GET TO KISUMU FROM NAIROBI
The most convenient way to get to Kisumu from Nairobi is to fly! There are domestic flights taking slightly an hour to Kisumu. Kenya Airways (KQ) has regular flights from Nairobi to Kisumu and vice versa.
(2) Public buses
Long distance buses are also available as an option to consider.
There are 5 direct buses per day from Nairobi to Kisumu, run by Easy Coach, Praxigon Coach, Modern Coach or ENA Coach. The trip takes around 8 hours and tickets cost from 12 USD upwards.
NOTE: For students, AIBBC will consider reimbursing the fare to and from Kisumu by public buses. Students are advised to keep all original receipts for this purpose. Please note that we will not reimburse the cost of fuel for your personal vehicle.
(3) Drive yourself
Alternatively, if you are looking for some adventure, you may consider driving yourself to Kisumu. Kisumu is approximately 346 km from Nairobi, and takes about 5~6 hours by car. The journey will take you through spectacular sceneries through the Great Rift Valley to the tea plantations of western Kenya, before you descend into the Lake Victoria Basin where Kisumu is located. If you have a valid driver’s license (international driver’s license acceptable in Kenya), then you may consider hiring or renting a car for the adventure. For international guests, it is advisable to deal with registered car dealers to avoid any trouble.
